The Little Village of Antwikwa

So my sister McKell has been visiting this small village outside of town.  The village is about 600 people big and is mostly a farming community.  There is no medical clinic and to get to one, you would have to walk 30 minutes, wait for a car (which we have had to wait for over an hour for) and ride for about another 20-30 minutes.  She saw the need for them to have first aid supplies and so petitioned her church back home to gather medical supplies to send with her parents when they came to visit!  They collected about 2 large suitcases full of supplies!  How amazing?!

So Liz and I have gone with her the last few times to help teach the townspeople how to use the medical supplies.

It is truly a hidden treasure village.  They are some of the most welcoming and grateful people I have met in Ghana.  Most of them are quite poor, but they are such joyful people and I count it an enormous privilege to have gotten to spend some time with them.  God meets needs in all sorts of ways.  This time, He blessed this village by equipping a church in Utah to donate supplies…He paved the way for McKell’s parents to come to Ghana and deliver them…and He put a desire in the village people’s hearts to use the supplies wisely and replace them when they are finished so they will no longer be without basic first aid supplies.  God is really cool, huh?!

To get to the village we have to take a 45 minute tro-ride (crazy fast car with too many people in it), wait for a pickup truck in which we sit in the back holding on to anything we can for about 20-30 minutes and then we walk in the middle of nowhere for 30 minutes.

Me and McKell rode on the roof of the pickup!

The kids are always excited to see us come!

There is lots of cocoa out drying.  They have lots of cocoa groves in the nearby area.

Our future doctor Liz seeing to a woman who cut her hand with a machete.

They serve us coconuts before we leave.

The children are SO cute and funny!
